Pain Medicine & Addiction Medicine
Dr. Marks de Chabris is an Ontario based physician, lecturer, and teacher. A graduate of McGill University Medical School, he has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine. His practice is concentrated in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine as has a coveted Focused Practice Designation by the Ontario Medical Association. In 2014 he created and provided a physician’s master class in chronic pain management and in the past four years he has given over eighty presentations both nationally and internationally on medical and recreational cannabis, chronic pain, addictions, and the safe use of opioids.
In 2012 Dr. Marks de Chabris established and continues to run one of only three Chronic Pain Management centers in northern Ontario. In 2015 he and two colleagues founded one of the first Rapid Access Addiction Medicine clinics in Canada. In 2019 Dr. Marks de Chabris became Chief Medical Officer of ZYUS Life Sciences, helping the clinical development team launch the landmark Phase 1 Trichomylin and HOPE trials. He also chairs the ZYUS Clinical Advisory Committee and spearheads the company’s Healthcare Practitioner Education Program.
Dr. Marks de Chabris is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management, the Canadian Academy of Pain Management, and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He has been a Mentor in Addiction Medicine and Pain Medicine for the Ontario College of Family Physicians, a Medical Assessor and Clinical Supervisor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, an Independent Medical Examiner, and continues to teach as an Assistant Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Dr. Marks de Chabris is recognized by the Ontario Superior Court as an Expert in Pain Medicine and Addiction Medicine. In 2021 he was elected to the Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. Deakon obtained his medical degree at the University of Ottawa in 1983. Subsequently did a surgical internship at Toronto General Hospital followed by an orthopaedic residency at the University of Ottawa. He completed a Fellowship in Arthroscopy and Knee Ligament Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ottawa – Carleton Sports Medicine Clinic under the tuteledge of Dr Donald H Johnson. He holds specialty certification in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In private practice in Oakville, Ontario since 1989 and is an active staff member at Halton Healthcare Services-Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital site. Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Halton Healthcare Services. Director Oakville Sports Injury Clinic. Orthopaedic surgeon for the 100th and 105th Grey Cup winning Toronto Argonaut Football Club Orthopaedic surgeon York University Lions football team. Master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Associate Clinical instructor McMaster University. Member of the Canadian Society of Medial Evaluators. Frequent speaker on the treatment of sports medicine related knee injuries and an expert on the non-operative treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Frequent competitor in Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events including the 2016 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii and the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France.
This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.
