Dr. Steven Poirier has been trained in Family Medicine and has been practicing medicine since 2012. He obtained his medical degree and Family Medicine residency training through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Program. He has practiced rural family medicine and rural emergency medicine for 3 years after graduating in 2012 and then transitioned into a larger center and practiced both, hospital Medicine as a hospitalist, and Family Medicine in the office setting. This has allowed him to acquire both the knowledge and skills essential to all aspects of care form prevention, to emergency to acute and subacute care as well as medicine in all age groups from birth to end of life care.
In addition, Dr. Poirier also provides special interest medicine in 3 categories:
1. He provides a longevity medicine and has helped develop the Longevity Medicine Program at Medcan
2. He provides Men’s Vitality medicine at Medcan
3. Dr. Poirier has also trained as a Chiropractor. He graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2003 and practiced until 2006 when he decided to enter medicine. As a result, he has a strong expertise in areas of the neuro-musculoskeletal system and has an understanding and respect for the holistic approach to medicine and preventative care mindset.
Teaching:
Dr. Poirier has been involved in teaching the next generation of physician since 2013 by being an associate professor for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto at the level of Lecturer. He has also been a regular preceptor through the Rural Ontario Medicine Program and one the preceptors for the francophone stream of the medicine programme at the University of Ottawa. He also is a regular preceptor for students and the medical school at University College Cork that is affiliated with Medcan.
