Dr. Reid is Adjunct, Professor of OB/GYN in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Queen’s University. He is currently co-chair of the Contraception Advice, Research, and Education [C.A.R.E.] fellowship program in Contraception and Family Planning at Queen’s University. Following OB/GYN residency at Queen’s University Dr Reid did a two year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of California San Diego. He joined the faculty of the Department of OB/GYN at Queen’s University in 1981. Dr. Reid has been active in clinical research with over 250 peer reviewed publications, invited reviews, and book chapters in the areas of reproductive neuroendocrinology, menopause, contraception, menstrual related mood disorders and medical education. From 1991 until 2016 Dr. Reid taught a national ‘Introduction to Research’ course for residents and junior faculty in OB/GYN on behalf of the Association of Professors of OB/GYN of Canada (APOG). Dr. Reid is a Past President of both the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC). In 1988 on behalf of SOGC and CFAS, Dr. Reid chaired the first Canadian report entitled “Ethical Considerations of the New Reproductive Technologies”. In 2005-2006 Dr. Reid chaired a national ‘Reproductive Aging’ CHE program on behalf of CFAS. From 2000-2004 he chaired the SOGC’s Contraception Awareness Program on sexual and reproductive health. The website for this program in 2005 received a prestigious World Summit Award from the United Nations for being one of the Top 5 e-health websites in the world. He is author of the 2010 ACOG guideline on ‘Non-contraceptive uses of hormonal contraceptives’. Dr Reid has co-chaired the development of SOGC guidelines on “Menopause and Osteoporosis” in 2009 and 2014 and has been a contributor to guidelines on this subject from the North American Menopause Society in 2007, 2010 and 2016. Dr Reid has been on the organizing committee for three separate FIGO World Congresses and currently is a member of the scientific program committee for the World Menopause Conference slated for Vancouver in June 2018. He has been a consultant to NASA on menstrual management during prolonged space flight (2004) and has been a contributor to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on the subject of the effects of reproductive hormones on athletic performance (2008). Dr Reid’s long standing commitment to women’s health and the national organizations responsible for education and clinical care in this field has been recognized through several awards including the President’s Awards of SOGC (2003 and 2014) and the President’s Award of APOG (2006 and 2008) and the CFAS Award of Excellence (2005) and Honorary membership “ad eundem’ in the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the United Kingdom (2013).
