About The Speaker
Dr. Michael Norbury is a Family Physician working with marginalised and complex patients in an urban Primary Care setting in Vancouver, BC. He trained as a General Practitioner in NHS Scotland where he subsequently worked in deprived areas in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Since arriving in Vancouver in 2015, he has worked in one of the five local owned and operated health authority clinics. Together, these multi-disciplinary clinics look after the most complex patients in Vancouver, who typically have significant medical, psychiatric, social and substance use challenges. Dr. Norbury has a teaching affiliation with the University of British Columbia and enjoys working clinically with Family Medicine Residents. In 2010 he completed his MSc with Distinction in Health Inequalities and Public Policy at The University of Edinburgh. Dr. Norbury also completed two post-training Fellowships, one as a Health Inequality Fellow and another as a GP Academic Fellow, which allowed him to develop his research and publication skills. Dr. Norbury is also the Program Medical Director for Primary Care at Vancouver Coastal Health, where he gains further experience in his areas of interest, namely health systems and health inequalities.
