Dr. Joe Nemeth

Dr. Nemeth is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at McGill University and a senior attending emergency physician at the McGill University Health Centre, where he has practiced since 2001. He holds concurrent appointments in the Departments of Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Critical Care, and serves as Trauma Team Leader at both the Montreal General Hospital and the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Nemeth served as Emergency Department Director at the Montreal General Hospital for nearly eight years and has been a central architect of the department’s educational identity across multiple decades. His leadership has shaped residency training, fellowship development, and the academic culture of emergency medicine at McGill.

A dedicated educator he is the creator and director of McGill’s Trauma Fellowship for Emergency Physicians, the General Emergency Medicine Fellowship, and the Resuscitation Fellowship — programs that have trained clinicians from across Canada and internationally. He has delivered keynote lectures globally at internationally recognized conferences ranging from the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia to Singapore and Malaysia.

His scholarly contributions include more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, numerous book chapters, and active editorial roles across leading emergency medicine journals. His clinical and academic focus centres on trauma, resuscitation, pediatric emergency medicine, airway management, and cognitive performance in high-acuity environments.
