About The Speaker

Dr. Ignaszewski received his medical training in Poland. He came to Canada in 1983 and completed Internal Medicine training in Nova Scotia and Cardiology training in Alberta. He was recruited for medical leadership of the Healthy Heart Program at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver in 1994. Dr. Ignaszewski is Head, Division of Cardiology, Providence Health Care and Medical Director, Healthy Heart and Heart Function Programs, St. Paul’s Hospital. With this, he is Medical Director, Heart Transplant Program, BC Transplant Society, Providence Health Care, as well as, Clinical Professor of Medicine Division of Cardiology, University of British Columbia. His research interests are cardiac rehabilitation and prevention, heart failure, and chronic disease management. He has published 70 papers and 119 abstracts in these areas. He is also involved in the teaching of medical students and medical residents and has received numerous teaching awards from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Ignaszewski was a primary panelist for the development of CCS Consensus Group for Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in 1999 and for Management of Heart Failure in 2001, 2006 and 2007.
