Dr Alex Barss is a family physician who graduated from the University of Alberta in 1987 and a family practice Residency at UBC in 1989. He has practiced in both community and rural medicine, as a hospital and office based practice. He was Chair and board member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (a multidisciplinary committee that evaluates research papers regarding medical therapy, conducts study design, and provides professional insight to support pharmaceutical decision making) at the Richmond General Hospital and for Interior Health BC for over 10 years. He has been a medical student preceptor, a foreign medical graduate preceptor and UBC med school examiner over many years.. He is very involved in continuing medical education of Family Physicians in multiple areas including smoking cessation, pulmonary disease, treatment resistant hypertension, VTE, among other topics. He is currently a Committee member of the Academy for Continued Advancement in Health Care Education developing a nationwide CME program on Venous Thromboembolism and VTE in cancer patients.
