Dr. Hudak graduated from McMaster University Medical School, Hamilton, Ontario in 1978 and went on to do a Paediatric Fellowship at McMaster University and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He also did a Paediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship at Dalhousie before leaving to go into a private consulting Paediatric practice in Orillia, Ontario. In addition to his office and hospital work, he has held academic appointments at the University of Toronto, McMaster University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, teaching Paediatric residents and medical students. As well he provided locum services to hospitals across Northern Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and in the Middle East. In 2019 he retired from his Orillia practice and became Chief of Paediatrics in Timmins, Ontario, retiring there in 2022. For the past 17 years he has sat on the Paediatric Death Review Committee of the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario.
