Family Medicine
Dr. Kaplan is the Chairperson of the Family Physician Airways Group of Canada and a Board member of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group. He is the President of the IPCRG 5th biennual world scientific meeting, “Making Every Breath Count” Toronto June 2-5, 2010 and chair of the Council of Organizing Members of the Canadian Network for Respiratory Care. Dr. Kaplan is also a representative of the College of Family Physicians of Canada to the SARS clinical working group and a member of Chronic Respiratory Disease Surveillance Advisory Committee (Public Health Agency of Canada) , the Health Canada Section on Allergy and Respiratory Therapies and the Canadian Metropolitan Tuberculosis Subcommittee. Dr. Kaplan is an international editor for Nature’s Primary Care Respiratory Journal and for the Italian Journal of Primary Care.
Family Medicine
Dr. Gerald Levine graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1982 and the University of Toronto Family Medicine School in 1984. From 1985 to 2017 he ran his family medical practice in Barrie, Ontario, and has focused on stress management, burnout prevention and mindfulness facilitation since 2006. He has conducted stress management/burnout prevention staff training for the Canadian Mental Health Association York Region, Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe, York Support Services Network and Simcoe County Elementary Teachers Federation. He has also hosted workshops on stress management/burnout prevention for many family practitioners and specialists, the General Practitioner Psychotherapy Association of Canada, Ontario Social Workers Association, Georgian Bay Cancer Support Network, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and many more.
Dr. Kaplan will review the many causes of cough and dyspnea including COPD, asthma, heart failure, vaping and e-cigarettes. He will also review the use of cannabinoids and provide an update on vaccines.
Dr. Levine will share pearls of practice management, time management, physician stress and burnout. He will describe some coping mechanisms and lead a discussion on how to deal with the day-to-day stressors of medical practice.

This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.
