Dr. Simraaj Powar MB BCh BAO LRCSI LRCPI CFP PgDip (Derm), graduated from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with a medical degree and Bachelor of Obstetrics. The well-renowned program placed a strong emphasis on clinical skills, patient contact, and the application of medical knowledge. Dr. Powar subsequently completed her Family Medicine residency training at the University of Western Ontario. She completed dedicated rotations in Dermatology, General Surgery/Plastics, Minor Medical Procedures, and General Practice Dermatology. She was awarded the Schulich Learner Peer Award for her exceptional interest and enthusiasm for the learning needs of patients and students. Dr. Powar completed her postgraduate degree in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff, which awarded her the title of GP Derm.

Dr. Powar’s intrigue for Dermatology stems from the ideology that ‘the skin is the window to the body’, and often can be an indicator of underlying pathology, and a major component of a person’s idea of self. Additionally, she has a curious affinity for visual clinical diagnosis, as evidenced by her numerous publications in the Canadian Journal of Diagnosis. Dr. Powar encourages a patient-centered care model, understanding the importance of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team to help a patient reach their goals.

Dr. Powar draws on her skills to create CME topics and presentations with focus on clinically relevant topics, practical approaches, and expanding confidence in procedural skills.

About The Speaker
Dr. Bebb started his career in Family Medicine before going on to specialize in Endocrinology and Metabolism. He found the intricacies of endocrine diseases interesting and the interaction with patients rewarding. His career spans 24 years of primarily clinical work both in academic settings and private practice. In addition to a broad experience in general endocrinology, he has two special interest areas: men’s hormonal health and the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk reduction.  Dr. Bebb has also held academic appointments in administration and medical education. He served as acting head of Endocrinology and Metabolism at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, Canada. He created the undergraduate endocrine medical education core curriculum modules at St Paul’s Hospital. He served as the University of British Columbia Endocrine Fellow’s Clinic coordinator and mentor from 1995 to 2002.  He is the recipient of awards for his teaching and research. He was co-recipient of an award for the number one rated Case Management Session at the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting in 2012., and the co-recipient of Top Poster award at Endocrine Society Meeting 2015.

Welcome to Peru, one of the treasures of South America. Travel through this intriguing land visiting some of the world’s most legendary sites, including Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas." Day 2     April 6             Lima

After breakfast, register and attend your first CME sessions. Then break for lunch followed by another CME session. (B, L & D) Accommodation: Hilton Garden Inn Miraflores, Lima    

Day 3     April 7             Lima

Discover Lima’s fascinating history during a colonial tour through the historic city centre, a UNESCO World  Heritage site. Admire the artwork at San Francisco Cathedral and Monastery and enter the catacombs. View the elegant Cathedral at Plaza de Armas and visit the Casa de Aliaga – former house of the conquistador Jeronimo de Aliaga y Ramirez – where the energy of colonial and republican Lima comes to life. See the fashionable suburbs of Barranco and Miraflores. (B) Accommodation: Hilton Garden Inn Miraflores, Lima      

Day 4     April 8             Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas

Fly to Cusco in the heart of Inca civilization. Journey through the Andes to the majestic Sacred Valley of the Incas, the agricultural centre of their grand empire. While on route to your hotel, explore different towns in the valley, each a representation of the region’s unique culture. After a short lesson on the    local language, stop in Pisac village to browse the colorful handicraft market. Settle into your hotel nestled in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Day 5    April 9               Sacred Valley of the Incas – Ollantaytambo – Sacred Valley of the Incas

This morning, visit the spectacular Ollantaytambo ruins, the only Incan settlement that has been continually inhabited since its inception. A uniquely terraced complex topped with carved stone panels, these ruins reflect  ancient Incan architecture and heritage. Then, head to the Pablo Seminario Ceramic Studio where you’ll get first hand knowledge of this internationally renowned artist’s techniques and  designs, inspired by ancient Peruvian cultures. Experience the lifestyle of the modern Andean people and delve into their culture when you travel to a nearby Quechua community and interact with the locals. You’ll get a true taste of their daily life when participating in small group workshops that teach you traditional methods of growing, harvesting and weaving. Celebrate their culture as you learn their dances and listen to their musical instruments before enjoying a home-hosted farm-to-table lunch featuring local specialties. Day 6   April 10               Sacred Valley of the Incas – Machu Picchu

Climb aboard the train for breathtaking views through panoramic windows as you ride through the Andes to the “Lost City of the Incas”. Hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungle, Machu Picchu is considered the most spectacular sight in South America. Spend the afternoon with your guide uncovering the mysteries of these majestic ruins. Tonight, stay at the base of Machu Picchu for a chance to further soak up its atmosphere. Enjoy an exclusive culinary demonstration and learn how to craft the perfect Ceviche and Pisco Sour before your dinner featuring a Peruvian menu. Day 7     April 11               Machu Picchu – Cusco

This morning, take advantage of free time and explore local markets in Aguas Calientes on your own. Return to the Sacred Valley by train. Upon arriving in Cusco, take time to explore the captivating city at your leisure. (B) Accommodation: Hilton Garden Inn Cusco, Cusco   

Day 8     April 12              Cusco        

Start your morning with a local guide on a tour of Cusco, visiting the San Pedro Market, the Koricancha temple, the central Plaza de Armas and the Cusco Cathedral. Later, it’s your choice. Travel above the city to discover the important sacred Incan ruins of Sacsayhuaman Fortress – OR – embark on a walking tour of San Blas, the traditional old quarter of Cusco, lined with restaurants and artisan shops. Then have leisure time until a late afternoon CME session. This evening you are treated to an authentic dinner highlighting local flavours in the heart of Cusco. Day 9     April 13              Cusco – Puno

This morning, fly to Puno, which hugs the shores of Lake Titicaca. Known as the birthplace of the Incan Empire, ancient legends say that life began here. Have time to meet locals and discover the history of the region as you explore the village centre before checking into your lakeside hotel, the GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca. After checking in, we will have another late afternoon CME session. Tonight enjoy an evening at leisure. (B) Accommodation: GHL Lago Titicaca, Puno  

Day 10   April 14              Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Lake Titicaca – Chullpas de Sillustan – Puno

The Titicaca area, steeped in tradition and folklore, is the centre of Incan legends. Enjoy a morning cruise to the floating islands of the Uros people. Experience walking on the island’s spongy surface made from compacted beds of tortora reeds. Meet the locals  and learn about their history and lifestyle. Later, cruise to a local rustic village for a home -hosted meal and swap stories  with Peruvian families before visiting the mystical Chullpas de  Sillustani – an archaeological area boasting 13th century funerary monuments. End the afternoon with another CME session. (B & L) Accommodation: GHL Lago Titicaca, Puno  

Day 11    April 15             Puno – Lima – Tour Ends

As the tour comes to a close, spend the remainder of your morning relaxing on the shores of Lake Titicaca before flying to Lima. Upon arrival, head to the Larco Museum, a former mansion built on the site of a pre Colombian temple. The museum offers a collection of over 3,000 years of ceramic, textile and precious metal artifacts. After this incredible trip through history, your tour concludes with a sumptuous farewell dinner on the grounds of the museum. Then depart for Lima’s airport for your flight home. (B & D)
