Dr. Polasek is a clinical cardiologist from Kelowna, BC. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of British Columbia. He was educated in Prague, Czech Republic and trained in Saskatoon, Canada. He practices invasive and non-interventional cardiology. Dr. Polasek has been actively involved in CME for over 20 years, has been the chairman of numerous regional CME events and is an international speaker.
Dr. Birman graduated from University of Toronto Medical School in 1980 and did postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Respirology and Critical Care at various Toronto Hospitals. He was part of the original “Group of Seven” internists at Scarborough Grace Hospital in 1985. He practiced general Respirology and was Director of ICU until retiring from critical care in 2007. He retrained in Sleep Medicine in the mid to late 90’s and has been the director and Quality Advisor of a number of sleep diagnostic and treatment centres. He currently has an active office practice seeing consultations and follow-up patients for Respiratory disorders and Sleep Medicine and practices telemedicine to Northwest Ontario for Sleep Disorders. He interprets sleep studies for the North Toronto Sleep Centre and the Medical Diagnostic and Consulting Sleep Clinic in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.

Dr. Petr Polasek (a cardiologist from British Columbia) and Dr. Harry Birman (a pulmonologist from Ontario) are both veteran Sea Courses speakers and have developed a newly updated program on topics that are both relevant and practical for family physicians and specialists.
Dr. Polasek will review such things as atrial fibrillation, cardiac diagnoses and how to investigate patients with potential cardiac problems.
Dr. Birman also does sleep medicine and he will review COPD, asthma, investigating patients with respiratory disease and investigating patients with sleeping disorders
