About The Speaker

Dr. Bordman graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1985. He has achieved credentials in both addiction and pain from international societies. He is a mentor to other doctors as part of The College of Family Physicians of Ontario’s “Medical Mentorship in pain and addiction” program (MMAP). He has experience in Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, Family Practice and Long Term Care. His main interest is in treating Opioid Addiction and assessing Chronic Pain treatment in the complex patient.

About The Speaker

Dr. Stern is a Family Physician and the Former Chief of Staff at Halton Healthcare Services in Oakville, ON. A member of the Canadian Pain Society as well as a member of Thrombosis Canada. He is also a panel Committee Member of the 2017 Opioid Guidelines. Dr. Sol Stern obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1982 after obtaining a BSc and MSc at the same university. He started a family medicine practice in Oakville, Ontario in 1983 and has been practicing in Oakville ever since. Dr. Stern spends about 1/4 of his time involved in CME and has developed and collaborated on many CME workshops including the topics of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic pain management. He has presented over 1000 CME programs over the last 20 years.

Dr. Sol Stern (Family Physician from Ontario) and Dr. Joel Bordman (Addiction Specialist from Ontario) have collaborated on many CME programs over the last 15 years and have designed a program that is planned to be relevant and interactive.

Dr. Stern will review the 2017 Canadian Opioid Guidelines and explore with participants on how these Guidelines have affected their practices. Dr. Stern will also update participants on the management of chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Bordman will review the diagnosis and management of Opioid Use Disorder. He will address screening for addiction in practice and as well as the Opioid Crisis and its effects on physician attitudes to the management of pain. Dr. Bordman will also address non-opioid addictions in practice as well as the use of cannabinoids.
