This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.

A Taste of Newfoundland  

The tip of the Avalon Peninsula is your gateway to an unforgettable journey through the wonders of Newfoundland.  

Day 1     July 18                  St. John’s  

You will be met at St. John’s Airport and transferred to the JAG Hotel, St. John’s (6 night stay). You are staying in the 500 years-young coastal city of St. john’s, where contemporary elegance melds seamlessly with the charms of the old world. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Join your fellow travellers for a welcome dinner. Today dinner is included.

  Day 2     July 19                  St. John’s  

Spend this morning attending the first CME session. Then set out on a discovery of North   America’s easternmost city. Spend some time in quaint Petty Harbour, one of the continent’s oldest settlements. Enjoy time to explore the picturesque town on your own before getting the local flavours at lunch. Get caught up in the trails of Signal Hill and step into maritime history at Cape Spear Lighthouse, the oldest surviving lighthouse in the region. Stop at a local grocery store and look for packaged, moose, caribou and local berries on display. Tonight, partake in one St. John’s greatest traditions, Rally in the Alley, a really fun night out in St. John’s. Today, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.  

Day 3     July 20                  St. John’s  

This morning, attend the second CME session. The remainder of the day will be at leisure, yours to do as you wish. Perhaps you will enjoy a local gallery or explore an nearby nature trail. Today, breakfast is included.  

Day 4     July 21                   St. John’s           

Today after breakfast, travel to the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula and take in green slopes set upon rocky cliffs. Discover the area from a different perspective and hit the water on a Zodiac Ecotour. Stop at Ferryland Head to enjoy a picnic lunch, admiring views of the scenic lighthouse and the coastal lookout. Take a step back into the past at lord Baltimore’s Mansion, a site that dates back to the 17th century. Today, breakfast and lunch are included  

Day 5     July 22                   St. John’s  

This morning, attend the third CME session. After the session is done, the day is yours. Many sightseeing options are available. Today, breakfast is included.  

Day 6     July 23                   St. John’s  

This morning, attend the final CME session. After lunch, head out for an afternoon of sightseeing. Watch for puffins on a nature cruise to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. Your on-board guide will engage you in the region’s connections to marine life – specifically the thousands of Humpback and Minke whales that call this corner of the world home. This evening, join your new friends for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Today, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.  

Day 7     July 24                   St. John’s  

After breakfast, transfer to St. John’s Airport as your Taste of newfoundland journey comes to an end.
