Gynecology
Richard is a Professor and Gynecology Section Head of the University of Manitoba Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. He is the Medical Director of the Mature Women’s Centre, Menopause Clinic and HALT (Hysterectomy Alternatives) Program at the Victoria General Hospital, in Winnipeg. His main interests include the development of ambulatory care surgical programs, advanced gynecologic minimally invasive surgery, family planning, as well as sexual and menopausal health. He has lectured and published extensively on these subjects. He is a member of a large number of medical societies, and has had numerous national posts in the area of reproductive health care and sexuality education. He has been a principal investigator in over 100 clinical trials and investigations of new technology in managing abnormal uterine bleeding and uterine fibroids.
Sexual & Reproductive Health
Dr. William Fisher is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Western University, having spent four decades in the Department of Psychology, cross-appointed to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at Western. His work focuses on understanding and promoting sexual and reproductive health in the areas of individual and couple sexual function, contraceptive choice and adherence, STI/HIV prevention, sexual pharmacology development, and the education of healthcare professionals in these domains. Bill serves on the Expert Working Group of the Canadian STI Guidelines, he is a contributing author of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada Canadian Contraception Guidelines, he has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, and he presently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sex Research, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and Sexual Medicine Reviews. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and has received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and the Hellmuth Award for Research and the Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching from Western University, he has held a National Health Scientist award from Health Canada, and his research has been supported by the US National Institutes of Health, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada across his career. Dr. Fisher has published 250 peer-reviewed papers concerning sexual and reproductive health.
This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.
