About The Speaker

Dr. Hatcher has practiced for over 40 years and is semi-retired with a focused consulting practice in chronic pain and psychotherapy. She is an Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine both at McMaster University and Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is President of the Canadian Academy of Pain Management. She has a diplomates in pain management, health care administration and medical leadership.

She received the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s annual Mental Health Awareness Award and a fellowship from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Hatcher lectures both nationally and internationally in many areas of, pain management, mental health and communication skills. As well, Dr Hatcher sits on several national advisory panels for the management of chronic pain.

Her hobbies are gardening, travel, fine wines, her grandchildren and keeping her husband on the straight and narrow.

About The Speaker

Dr. Mitch Shulman (or “Dr Mitch” as he’s known to those who follow him on radio, TV and in print) has always loved teaching. He’s an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at McGill and an attending physician in the emergencies of the 2 campuses of the McGill University Health System teaching medical students and residents. He has presented at McGill’s Thursday Evening Lecture series and its Lunchtime Webinars, at the McGill Refresher Course for Family Physicians and at many other professional meetings. He’s an ACLS Master Instructor. He’s also actively engaged in educating the public. He appears daily on Bell Media Radio, weekly on Global TV’s, Montreal This Morning and is an award-winning columnist with a weekly column in the largest English language weekly in Quebec, The Suburban. He volunteers his time speaking at many charitable events.

After completing his undergraduate training at Harvard, he came back home to Montreal to attend McGill Medical School and then did a residency in Emergency Medicine (where he was Chief Resident). He was among the first Royal College certified Emergency Medicine specialists (1983) and served as an examiner for the Royal College. He was acting Director of the Emergency Department and served as its Research Director. He’s been a community doc and an occupational health physician. Currently, as well as his emergency department clinical responsibilities, he also serves as a medical scientist on an ethics review committee and works at the McGill Student Health Center. His commitment to his community runs deep. He was its Medical Director responsible for First Response and coached hockey to the Junior level. He still refs local ice hockey and plays. His philosophy on teaching has always been that we all have valuable knowledge to share and so he sincerely looks forward to hearing from you as we share the learning at this Sea Courses event.

Day 1 – August 29        Nice, France

Your memorable cruise begins in Nice, on the chic French Riviera, where you'll be transferred to your Emerald Cruises luxury yacht to begin your voyage through the beautiful Western Mediterranean. (D) Please book your flight to arrive into Nice prior to 3:00 PM.

Day 2– August 30        Santa Margherita Ligure—Portofino, Italy

Welcome to Santa Margherita Ligure, an Italian resort town presenting panoramic views and revered for its timeless elegance and style. For those seeking 'La dolce vita', you'll find it here in abundance. Stroll the Santa Margherita promenade, or the pebbly beachfront, admiring the gleaming yachts and vibrant, upscale bars. Explore a beautiful Baroque church, or sample freshly caught, succulent red shrimps. Later in the morning, you'll sail on to Portofino. Nestled along the Italian Riviera, Portofino boasts a rich gastronomic scene, a picturesque harbour and charming narrow streets lined with pastel-hued houses, high-end boutiques and plenty of seafood restaurants. Day 3– August 31 Porto Venere, Italy

Set on the Ligurian Coast, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Porto Venere harbours a romantic history, thanks to its penchant for attracting famous poets and artists over the centuries, including Lord Byron. In homage, this quaint town overlooks what is known as the 'Gulf of Poets'. Discover evocative, narrow stepped lanes, known as Caruggi, which were originally designed to shield locals from the elements and winding streets lined with colourful houses; follow them up to Doria Castle for lovely views of the town and Church of San Pietro. Day 4—September 1 Calvi, France

According to local legend, Calvi is where the intrepid, 15th century explorer, Christopher Columbus, was born. While historians may debate this, the natural beauty and rich culture of Calvi - set on the French island of Corsica - is undisputed. Calvi's beach presents a crescent-shaped bay of powdery white sand fringed by maritime pines, while the town has evolved as Corsica's 'culture capital', hosting several music festivals over the idyllic summer months. A shining jewel of the Cote d'Azur, the legendary beach resort town of Saint-Tropez is one of the most famous holiday destinations in Europe. Positioned near the Spanish French border in Spain's Catalonia region, Roses is a delightful seaside village set within a captivating natural environment where the mountains meet the sea. Roses harbours a long-standing fishing tradition, which is reflected in the local seafood speciality of 'Suquet de Peix a hearty fish soup prepared with the catch of the day along with locally sourced garlic, tomatoes and saffron. Day 8— September 5 Barcelona, Spain

Your luxurious yacht cruise concludes in Catalonia's cosmopolitan capital, Barcelona, where you'll be transferred to the airport for your return flight home or to continue your holiday.
