Formerly Principal Consultant, Biodynamic Research Corporation San Antonio, Texas. Elected Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association.

After two flying tours as a Canadian military pilot, Dr. Robert (Bob) Banks received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Toronto in 1986.  Following his internship and four years practicing as a flight surgeon and ER physician, Bob completed the United States Navy Residency of Aerospace Medicine. While a resident, he conducted human-subject research that identified an unknown physiological mechanism that caused loss of consciousness of pilots in flight.  His professional activities over many years were focused on human flight, and medical and engineering forensic investigations of trauma. He led an investigation into the cause and mechanism of injuries experienced by the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia when it crashed in 2003.  His publications are found in the journal of the Aerospace Medical Association, aviation and space medicine textbooks, and on the NASA website.  He was recently presented with the William Randolph Lovelace Award by the Society of NASA Flight Surgeons for his career contributions to space and aviation flight safety.
He and Patti live in San Antonio, Texas and Barrie, Ontario.

Dr. Sol Stern obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1982 after obtaining a BSc and MSc at the same university.  He started a family medicine practice in Oakville, Ontario in 1983 and has been practicing in Oakville ever since. Dr. Stern spends about 1/4 of his time involved in CME and has developed and collaborated on many CME workshops including the topics of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic pain management. He has presented over 1000 CME programs over the last 20 years. He is married and has 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Sea Courses is pleased to invite you to a Continuing Medical Education program during a 4 Night Land CME at the Fox Harb’r Resort in Nova Scotia from October 12 – 16, 2026. Dr. Bob Banks and Dr. Sol Stern have developed an interactive educational program that will be of interest to family physicians, specialists and allied health professionals.   After two flying tours as a Canadian military pilot, Dr. Robert (Bob) Banks received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Toronto in 1986. Dr. Stern has developed and collaborated on many CME workshops including the topics of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke and chronic pain management. He has presented over 1000 CME programs over the last 25 years and has presented CME programs in every province in Canada.   Dr. Stern will facilitate interactive sessions on topics that are prevalent in his Family Practice and will include Atrial Fibrillation, Hypertension, Diabetes and Practice Management.   Dr. Banks and Dr. Stern are very much looking forward to seeing you in Nova Scotia.

  • Atherosclerosis and Atrial Fibrillation
    • Weigh the risks/benefits of single, dual, and triple therapy in patients with concomitant AF and CAD
    • Apply recommendations from the 2016 CCS Focused Update of the Guidelines for the Management of Atrial Fibrillation and the 2018 CCS/CAIC Focused Update of the Guidelines for the Use of Antiplatelet Therapy for managing patients with concomitant AF and CAD
    • Review the 2023 Canadian Antiplatelet Guidelines in patients without AF
  • Hypertension and Stroke Prevention and Management in Patients
    • Plan to assess and screen patient’s blood pressure at all appropriate visits.
    • Discuss modifiable cardiovascular risk factors with patients.
    • Discuss blood pressure targets and need for anticoagulation/anti-platelet therapy in people who have just suffered a stroke.
  • Atherosclerosis and Diabetes
    • Describe the patient who should be treated with an SGLT2i GLP1-RA agonist and nsMRA for CVD protection
    • Explain the rationale for this treatment and the potential benefits
    • Describe the steps for initiating and monitoring therapy for patients with diabetes

    • Discuss the use of the Electronic Medical Record and Information Technology in Medical Practice
    • Analyze the potential benefits and risks of e-mail communication and practice websites
