Advances in Cardiovascular and Endocrine Health

CME AWAY® by Sea Courses is pleased to invite you to a 4-Night Land CME at Fox Harb’r  Nova Scotia May 11 -15, 2026. Dr. Alice Cheng and Dr. Michael Heffernan have presented together many times. They have developed an interactive educational program that will be of interest to family physicians, specialists, and allied health professionals.   Dr. Alice Cheng is an Endocrinologist at Trillium Health Partners and Unity Health Toronto and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. She was involved with the development of the Diabetes Canada clinical practice guidelines from 2003 to 2020 and was Chair for the 2013 version. She served as Chair of the Scientific Planning Committee for the 2023 and 2024 American Diabetes Association annual scientific meetings. Dr. Cheng is an Associate Editor for the Journal, Diabetes Care, and co-host of the podcast series “Diabetes Care On Air”. In recognition of her contribution to the diabetes community, she has received the 2025 Outstanding Physician Clinician in Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Cheng is also the creator of The Med Ed Pledge, an initiative to increase Diversity & Inclusion in continuing medical education (www.theMedEdPledge.com). Dr. Cheng will address Thyroid Nodules, Adrenal Nodules, Diabetes’ Guidelines and Treatments.   Dr. Michael Heffernan is a staff cardiologist at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital in Oakville, Ontario.  He has a Doctorate in Medical Genetics from the University of Toronto and completed medical training, Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Toronto. He is currently a Staff Cardiologist at Halton Healthcare and is also the Director of the Oakville Hospital’s Heart Function Clinic and the Medical Director of Research at Halton Healthcare. In addition, Dr. Heffernan is an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University and the University of Toronto.  Dr. Heffernan’s research activities have been widely published in academic and peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine. His topics will include approach to Cardiac Investigations, Dyslipidemia, Congestive Heart Failure and Palpitations.   Dr. Cheng and Dr. Heffernan look forward to seeing you in Nova Scotia.
