About The Speaker
Dr. Mitch Shulman (or “Dr Mitch” as he’s known to those who follow him on radio, TV and in print) has always loved teaching. He’s an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at McGill and an attending physician in the emergencies of the 2 campuses of the McGill University Health System teaching medical students and residents. He has presented at McGill’s Thursday Evening Lecture series and its Lunchtime Webinars, at the McGill Refresher Course for Family Physicians and at many other professional meetings. He’s an ACLS Master Instructor. He’s also actively engaged in educating the public. He appears daily on Bell Media Radio, weekly on Global TV’s, Montreal This Morning and is an award-winning columnist with a weekly column in the largest English language weekly in Quebec, The Suburban. He volunteers his time speaking at many charitable events.
After completing his undergraduate training at Harvard, he came back home to Montreal to attend McGill Medical School and then did a residency in Emergency Medicine (where he was Chief Resident). He was among the first Royal College certified Emergency Medicine specialists (1983) and served as an examiner for the Royal College. He was acting Director of the Emergency Department and served as its Research Director. He’s been a community doc and an occupational health physician. Currently, as well as his emergency department clinical responsibilities, he also serves as a medical scientist on an ethics review committee and works at the McGill Student Health Center. His commitment to his community runs deep. He was its Medical Director responsible for First Response and coached hockey to the Junior level. He still refs local ice hockey and plays. His philosophy on teaching has always been that we all have valuable knowledge to share and so he sincerely looks forward to hearing from you as we share the learning at this Sea Courses event.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 | Tuesday, June 25, 2024 | Lima
Arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima. If your cruise/tour package includes a group arrival transfer or if you have purchased a private arrival transfer, a Uniworld representative will be on hand to greet you and escort you to the beautiful Country Club Lima Hotel. Its charm and comfort will offer you the perfect home for your exploration of the city.
Day 2 | Wednesday, June 26, 2024 | Lima
After breakfast, we’ll get the CME sessions started. Your afternoon will be at leisure to explore Lima.
Day 3 | Thursday, June 27, 2024 | Lima
Known as the “City of Kings,” Lima was founded in 1535. A melting pot of cultures, flavors and history, this bustling metropolis has something for everyone, and today you get to discover it all.
Day 4 | Friday, June 28, 2024 | Lima, Fly to Iquitos (Nauta), Embark
You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight to Iquitos. Upon your arrival at Iquitos International Airport, a Uniworld representative will be on hand to greet you and escort you to the Aria Amazon. In the evening, you will be welcomed with a reception dinner by Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino. Famous for his innovative take on Amazonian cuisine, this dinner will be bursting in flavors unique to the Peruvian Amazon.
Day 5 | Saturday, June 29, 2024 | Yanayacu-Pucate River, Marañón River
Your day starts at the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, the second largest protected natural area in Peru. Kayak, canoe and swim in the black waters of the Yanayacu-Pucate River. In the afternoon, learn about traditional customs of the area at a remote village along the Marañón River. Once the sun sets, we’ll gaze at the night sky, where you’ll have a crystal-clear view of planets and constellations.
Day 6 | Sunday, June 30, 2024 | Samiria River, Nauta Caño (Amazonian Natural Park)
Today we’re exploring the vibrant wildlife and lush greenery thriving in the Amazon. Your naturalist guide will teach you all about the diverse flora and fauna unique to the region before setting off on a guided jungle walk. You’ll finish the day stargazing on the “Enchanted Lake.”
Day 7 | Monday, July 1, 2024 | Nauta
One of the oldest inhabited areas in the Peruvian Amazon, Nauta is nestled between the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers. You’ll explore the town’s market, which is full of fresh fish, fruits and vegetables. From there, it’s a short journey to the birthplace of the Amazon River.
Day 8 | Tuesday, July 2, 2024 | Ucayali River, Pacaya River
Experience life as an Amazon River dweller as you cruise along the Ucayali River. Search for the famous pink dolphins and other wildlife lurking just beyond the river. Once the sun sets, we’ll take to the Pacaya River, on the lookout for nocturnal beasts.
Day 9 | Wednesday, July 3, 2024 | Pacaya River, Ucayali River, Tapiche River
Your day starts early today with a skiff excursion along the Pacaya River, where you’ll venture into the rainforest to see some wildlife. Following lunch, you’ll participate in a paiche fishing demonstration. The paiche is the second largest fish in the world. We’ll end the day watching for the pink river dolphins on the Ucayali River.
Day 10 | Thursday, July 4, 2024 | Clavero Lake, San Jose de Sarapanga Forest
Spend the morning jungle walking, canoeing, kayaking or swimming on the black water Yarapa River or Clavero Lake. In the afternoon, see the unbelievable giant water lilies of the San Jose de Sarapanga forest.
Day 11 | Friday, July 5, 2024 | Nauta (Iquitos), Disembark, Fly to Lima
Take a morning walk through the town of Nauta before disembarking the Aria Amazon. Your guide will take you on a few excursions on your way to the Iquitos airport. Once you’ve arrived in Lima, you’ll be transferred to the Wyndham Costa del Sol Airport Hotel for your last night.
Day 12 | Saturday, July 6, 2024 | Lima
Your majestic Peru adventure ends this morning. Your guide will walk you from the Wyndham Costa del Sol Airport Hotel to the Lima airport check in.
