Dr. Laura Purcell is a Pediatric Sport Medicine Physician practicing in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She completed medical school at McMaster University in 1995 and her PediatricsRresidency at Dalhousie University in 1999. She completed a Sport Medicine fellowship at Western University in 2002 and obtained her Diploma in Sport Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine that same year. She completed the Clinician Educator Program at McMaster University and obtained her Area of Focused Competency (AFC) Diploma, Clinician Educator in 2021. She obtained her AFC Diploma in Sport Medicine through the Practice Eligible Route in 2023.
Dr. Purcell worked in Pediatric Emergency Medicine for 10 years following completion of residency and added Sport Medicine to her clinical practice following the completion of her fellowship. In addition to being a Pediatric Sport Medicine Physician, Dr. Purcell is the Clinical Skills Coordinator and Faculty Development Coordinator for the Waterloo Regional Campus of McMaster University, as well as the Associate Program Director for the Clinician Educator Program at McMaster University.
As part of her sport medicine career, Dr. Purcell has been involved with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th International Consensus Conferences on Concussion in Sport as an expert panellist, co-author and systematic review co-author. She has presented extensively on Pediatric Sport Medicine topics, including sport-related concussion at the local, national and international levels. In addition, she has co-edited three textbooks, authored more than 20 book chapters, and published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles.

This course is designed for family physicians, specialists, and allied health care professionals. The aim is to provide evidence-based material, as well as practical and relevant clinical pearls that will be easy to implement into one’s own medical practice. Conference attendees will be invited to complete a pre-course Needs Assessment to assist the faculty with the development of their presentations.
